Training of Extension Agent/Farmers ‘ll boost livestock production, food security, job creation – KWSG*

The Kwara State Government says the training of Extension Agent/Farmers on Small Ruminant Production and Crop Residue Processing will increase livestock production, boost food security, and create job opportunities.

The State Project Coordinator for L-PRES, Mr Olusoji Oyawoye stated this on Friday at the closing ceremony of a five-day training for 100 extension agent/farmers capacity building on Small Ruminant Production and Crop Residue Processing for Improved Utilization by Ruminants.

The training was organized by the Synergy Impact Consultant Limited.

Mr Oyawoye, who was represented by the Extension Officer, Mr Nureni AbdulRasaq said the training covered a wise range of topics, from the basics of small ruminants
production to the importance of crop residue processing for sustainable livestock feeding.

The State Project Coordinator appreciated management of Synergy Impact Consultant Limited, facilitators for working tirelessly to ensure that participants gained the required knowledge, skills, and confidence to implement the practices in their respective communities.

Mr Oyawoye said the completion of the 100 Extension Agent/Farmers Capacity Building makes the total number trained agents to be 800, adding that the training will expose them to animal husbandry, feed production, and marketing.

Earlier, the Lead facilitator, Dr. Akeem Ajeigbe commended the state government for the training, saying, the present administration had engaged experts to train farmers on modern farming techniques.

Dr. Ajeigbe appealed to the participants to spread the knowledge gained during the training to drive Nigeria’s livestock industry forward.

Also speaking, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer of L-Pres, Mrs Kudirat Zubair-Oyewo said the training will help them in achieving the productivity, commercialization and resilience of target livestock values chain in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Dr. Abdul-Jimoh Muhammed thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq for giving kwarans the opportunity to learn a lot of business opportunities in ruminants production.
