Kwara Success Story: Governor AbdulRazaq prioritizes governance over politics – Hon Abolarin

…commends government’s ingenuity on security

The Chief Whip of the Kwara State House of Assembly and Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, Hon Abolarin Ganiyu Gabriel, has ascribed the noticeable developments, and executive – legislature harmony in the state to the leadership style of Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq which prioritizes governance over politicking from inception till date.

The honorable member representing Ekiti Constituency, shared this insight while speaking on the very noticeable infrastructural developments across Kwara State during the Guild of Digital Journalists, GDJ Monthly Interface.

GDJ recalls that last week, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu was in Kwara State on a 3-day state visit to commission several signature projects of the Gov. AbdulRazaq led administration, during which she expressed immense admiration for the achievements, and showered glowing accolades on the state government.

Commenting on how this feat was achievable in Kwara State, the Chief Whip traced the foundation to a master stroke meeting which the governor had with members of the 10th state Assembly upon inauguration.

At the meeting, “the governor called for prioritizing governance over politics”. The meeting also gave birth to the Grassroots Development Programme which provides a budgetary provision of N10m project for each constituency.

“Therefore, from the inception of this administration, the winning pair of Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq and Rt. Hon Yakubu Danladi, the Speaker, prioritized governance over politicking, and this enhanced the harmony between the legislature and the executive arms of government.”

The parliamentarian also addressed the security challenges prevalent in Kwara South Senatorial District and the state at large, commending the government’s proactive measures which have contributed significantly to the safety and well-being of the people

He articulated that the proposed establishment of state police would have a higher likelihood of success if local hunters and forest rangers are integrated into its framework, highlighting that the inclusion of local vigilantes in the state’s security apparatus has significantly mitigated the incidents of kidnappings and banditry in the region.

“We encounter a distinctive topography in Ekiti Local Government due to the expanse of forest reserves spanning multiple states and our proximity to three neighboring states,”he remarked.

He elucidated that a forest reserve extends from Niger state through Pategi, Isapa, Eruku, and further into Ekiti State.

“The malefactors utilize the forests as concealment and escape routes. However, through the collaboration of hunters and rangers that we assembled, we successfully contained the criminal elements” the legislator affirmed”.

Hon Abolarin urged the federal and state governments to harness the capabilities of these vigilantes more extensively in the event of instituting state police.

“With appropriate legislation and funding, I am convinced that these security operatives have invaluable contributions to offer,” he expressed.
