Kwara LGC Speakers Denounce Fake Letter, Distance selves from Controversial Statement

Speakers of the 16 Local Government Councils of Kwara State have issued a rejoinder distancing themselves from a circulated open letter addressed to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, purportedly written by the 193 Ward Councillors of the State.

The Speakers, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Fatoyinbo Olajide Michael, Chairman of the Speakers’ Forum, stated that the letter was not discussed, endorsed, or approved by them, and that they were not consulted or informed about its drafting or release.

“As the leadership of the Legislative Arm at the Local Government level, we consider it imperative that matters of this nature follow due process and proper channels of communication,” the Speakers said, expressing concern about the authenticity and collective representation claimed in the letter.

The Speakers acknowledged the importance of welfare matters, but strongly distanced themselves from the content, tone, and timing of the letter, attributing it to “opposition elements who are deliberately peddling false information across various platforms in a desperate attempt to mislead the public and damage the reputation of the present administration.”

“We condemn in strong terms the spread of such fake news and mischievous narratives,” the Speakers said, reaffirming their commitment to constructive engagement, dialogue, and cooperation with the Executive Arm of Government, led by His Excellency, in the interest of good governance, peace, and sustainable development at the grassroots level.

The rejoinder was signed by the Speakers of the 16 Local Government Councils of Kwara State, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Fatoyinbo Olajide Michael, and dated December 19, 2025.
