The Executive Chairman of Ekiti Local Government Council, Honourable Awelewa Olawale Gabriel, has presented the 2026 appropriation bill of ₦8,027,171,454.15 billion to the councils’ legislative arm for approval.
Tagged ‘Budget of Renewed Hope’; the budget focuses on education, digitalization of the council’s operation, health, youth, agriculture, empowerment, road construction, among others.
A breakdown of the budget indicates a capital expenditure of ₦2,836,151,227.78 representing 35.1 per cent and recurrent expenditure of ₦5,191,020,226.37 representing 64.9 per cent.
“A breakdown of the budget shows that education will receive ₦1.611 billion, health ₦0.78 billion, other social services ₦124 million, agriculture ₦95.3 million, other economic services ₦3.486 billion, while administration is allocated ₦1.932 billion.
In his speech, Honourable Awelewa said some of the programmes and projects that will be carried out under the budget includes construction of roads, construction of e-library/CBT center, provision of solar street lights, rehabilitation of primary schools, provision of bursary awards, rehabilitation of Public Health Centres, empowerment of all categories of people, sensitization, training and seminars on poverty reduction, promotion of clean environment, supports for youths and sports development as well as agricultural development programmes. He added that all leakages will be blocked by digitalising the council ‘s business permit processes.
“Our vision is to evolve a community that will serve as a model for socio economic and infrastructure. We will enhance transparency and efficiency in Internally Generated Revenue by fully implementing technology driven solutions. We will eliminate leakages and ensure every Kobo collected is accounted for and channeled towards the services of our people.
“The bill is more than just a document of figures, it is a covenant of hope between this administration and the people of Ekiti Local Government Area. It is a commitment to building resilient communities where sustainable growth is truly for all,” Awelewa said.
The chairman announced that a major highlight of the 2026 budget is the establishment of a 500-capacity Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre to improve access to digital examinations for students in the area.
“This project is aimed at supporting education, digital inclusion and youth development, so that our students can participate in national examinations without unnecessary hardship,” he said.
The chairman appealed to members of the legislative council to give the proposal prompt consideration and approval to enable early implementation for the benefit of residents.
He stressed that the administration remains committed to transparent governance, inclusive development and improved service delivery at the grassroots level.
The Leader of the Legislative House, Honourable Fatoyinbo Micheal commended the chairman for putting together a budget that captures the shared resolve to deepen inclusive development and strengthen the resilience of the communities. He said the legislative assembly will scrutinise the budget and give it timely attention.
