Ekiti APC ‘Clamps-down’ Against Party Rebels, as G7 Group Regrets Actions, Offers Apologies

By Opeyemi Adeoti

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State has issued a warning to a group within the party, known as the G7 Group, urging them to cease their activities that go against party interests or face disciplinary measures.

During the Ekiti APC Stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House yesterday, the Ekiti Local Government APC Chairman, Mr. Ayoola Ajibola, emphasized the unity of the party and stated that any individual or groups attempting to create divisions would be subject to appropriate sanctions.

Mr. Ajibola referred to a publication by the G7 Group, in which the members endorsed Senator Lola Ashiru for the 2027 elections in the name of the party. He clarified that this endorsement was not sanctioned by the party, as the state APC is yet to make a decision regarding a candidate.

The G7 Group had previously accused the party of disenfranchising certain members during the party’s e-registration process, alleging sabotage, imposition, and anti-democratic practices within the party.

They also claimed that the Personal Assistant to the member representing Ekiti Constituency in the State Assembly oversaw the exercise and engaged in irregularities.

Furthermore, the group alleged that the lawmaker had preemptively compiled a list of party executives in the local government for unilateral election.

In response, the Chairman refuted these allegations, describing them as unfounded and biased.

He asserted that no one has the authority to disenfranchise any member, and confirmed that all party members were properly registered.

He condemned the dissemination of misinformation, which could tarnish the lawmaker’s reputation and sow discord within the party. Mr. Ajibola warned that the party would not hesitate to impose strict penalties if such actions persisted.

Consequently, the Chairman reprimanded the G7 Group, affirming that Ekiti APC remains unified with no existing factions.

In response, the rebuked G7 Group, led by Chief Omogbenle Adeyemi, Otunba Taiwo Joseph, Hon. Issa Raji, and Hon. Ezekiel Gbadeyan, expressed regret for their previous actions.

They offered apologies to the stakeholders and earnestly sought forgiveness from the party.
