Stakeholders in the three senatorial districts of Kwara state are drumming support for the governorship aspiration of Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar aka 3SU.
Umar is representing Kwara North Senatorial District at the red chamber of the National Assembly.
The pharmacist-turned politician will soon formally declare his intention to join the governorship race in the state under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
An industrialist and a Kwara Southerner, Dr. Lanre Shittu, specifically urged people of the state to gauge the Senator’s scintillating performance at the National Assembly and use same to support his aspiration.
Dr Shittu, Chairman, Dele Cottons and Groups, spoke this in Ilorin, Kwara state capital during a meeting convened by a Kwara central All Progressives Congress (APC) elder Dr Olayinka Oniyangi.
On the sidelines of the meeting Dr Shittu received an award on behalf of the Senator from an online medium Curious TV for distinguished performance.
The US-based medical practitioner, added that “there is no doubt that if you take an objective poll amongst the good people of the state, many people want the Senator to be the next governor of the state to build on what Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq has done in the last seven years till date.
“But politics and getting into government is a little bit more complicated than that. That is why we are using this forum to encourage people to speak out; to focus on facts-based policies; to x-ray all the aspirants to look at what they have done and compare their performances.
“I think at the end of the day, Senator Umar will get the governorship ticket. He is more than qualified and equipped to win the election.
Earlier, Dr Oniyangi said his support for a Kwara northerner and specifically Senator Umar is based on fairness, equity and justice.
He added that other senatorial districts of Kwara Central and South have had a shot at the seat of power more than once since the creation of the state in 1967.
He urged Kwara South and Central districts to support the north in producing the next governor in 2027.
