In the words of our progenitors, any tradition done with the exclusion of children who will promote the norms tomorrow, marks the end and easy abandonment of it deity!
To me, it always good to be ambitious hence life itself would not worth living. Though it is unfortunate that the ambitions of most of our young men/women today are just how to make money and storm the stardom too quickly.
But, in spite of that sad reality today, our society is still full of young individuals who knows what they want from life and are ready to learn the rope leading to the upstairs.
The expression of interest by our own boys, Maruf Olayinka Onibonoje and Odofin Oyewole Solomon is a great example of those in who have Learnt a lot politically from a mentor and boss with a view to taking the right steps in the right direction with their recent declarations of interest to compete in the forthcoming local government election.
To me, the decisions by these young men to put their chest out to contest as Councillor is a right step in the right direction, if they and all of us agree in the new order that once a baby elephant grows, it must naturally blow it horns the same way the mother elephant portray its potentials.
one who has concluded that he won’t raise dust so as not to be killed in the process will never inherit the crown of his father. This is quite apposite as the same saying that he/she would be better as a servant in other people’s palace than being the true Prince in his own father’s kingdom.
Yes, it is not possible for all of us to be leaders at the same time, but until one uses his/her mouth to reject what is inedible, such individual can never amount to anything better than slaving for others in the midst of plenty.
Accordingly, the decision and determination of Onibon and Odofin have my applause by throwing themselves into the public ring for consideration, selection and election to be their peoples’ representatives and I have no regret to adjudged it the best step in the right direction.
Flowing from the above assertion is my personal view that the gentlemen should be encouraged, guided and supported in their efforts to actualize thier ambitions.
You will never know your worth, potentials and acceptability until you have stretched your neck out of the little cocoon in which you have always live. To me, a man that tried and fail is ten thousand kilometers far ahead than one would folds his arms and waiting for manas to fall on his laps from heaven. Because sooner than latter such would eventually realize that heaven helps only those who help themselves.
In making efforts, so many advantages are gained and there are three of such advantages that can never be attained doing nothing.
First, winning or losing would surely make the participant to know his/her capability, worth and how to guide his/her loins in preparation for future contests and challenges.
Second, the experience of being part of a race can’t be garnered elsewhere if the participant has not made any attempt to try….and third, whatever been the outcome of any effort, remains a signpost to those who witnessed the efforts of the participants in recommending him/her for bigger and better responsibilities in life.
On that same note, I wish to salute the courage of the duo of Onibon and Odofin for making their intentions and ambitions known, hoping that they would develop the courage, liver and determination to follow through to the end in reminiscence of their mentor and political tutor, Hon. Owolabi Olatunde Rasaq. Otherwise, it is better to moderate their ambition now if they are not prepared to assimilate both the good, the bad, the ugliest unavoidable experience of political contest. They should note that *in conventional war, you can be killed but once, but in politics, you should be prepared to be killed several times as postulated by ex-British Prime Minister, Mr. Churchill.
Nevertheless, they equally have consolation and make Mr. Ziegler’s timeless admonition their watchword, that Winners never quit, just as quitters never win.
While it is one thing to be ambitious but a different kettle of fish to have what it takes to achieve such ambition.
On my part, I wish those Owooo team homegrown boys the best of luck in the new endeavours of theirs.
As usual, just thinking aloud oooo!
