APC LG Primaries: Awelewa defeats former TIC Chair, Bayode in his home ward

The immediate past chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, Honourable Awelewa Olawale has emerged as the winner of the Chairmanship primary election of the party in Eruku Ward, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Hon. Awelewa defeated the Ekiti Local Government TIC Chairmen, Mr. Bayode Kehinde who hails from Eruku Ward in the results declared by the ward’s congress official at the end of the direct primary election conducted on Tuesday, to emerge as winner in Eruku ward, during the All Progressives Congress primary.

Announcing the result of the direct primary at , Eruku town hall, the venue of the Congress in the, ward, Mr. Adeleke Aina,, the electoral officer, said Honourable Awelewa Olawale scored 49 votes, to beat other aspirants, including Mr. Bayode Kehinde, the TIC chairman, who scored 39 votes.

He said 92 party members were accredited for the exercise, adding that only 90 party members cast their votes. While 49 voted for Awelewa, 39 voted for Bayode Kehinde and 2 voted for Adaramola Samuel.

In his remarks, the former Ekiti Local Government APC Chairman, Honourable Awelewa said he was not surprised that he won in Eruku ward, which shows the political ingenuity of the people of Eruku who have chosen to support competence over mediocrity.

Awelewa, who described the exercise as a family affairs, said the primary was not expected to be a battle field as they await official declaration of results of the primary by the State APC Electoral Committee..

He also urged party members to brace up for the challenges ahead.

“I want my fellow aspirants to see this exercise as a family affair and not a battle field as we await the official declaration of the final results by the State APC Electoral Committee..

“God is always in control, there is no violence in the the local government area as the primary was conducted under a peaceful and calm atmosphere However, we should all brace up for the challenges ahead and create opportunity for reconciliation,” he said

The former party Chairman described the turnout of the party members for the exercise as meaningful and impressive.

“I thank God that we were able to do it peacefully.

“All the members of the party have the opportunity to decide who will carry the flag of the party.

“I want to appeal to all our people all over the local government to please maintain peace.

“This election process should not be a battle field. It should not be a do or die affair. There should be no violence.

“Let everybody have the opportunity of participating in his choice of who should be the candidate of our party.

“I think that is the process and I think it has gone very well,” he said.

Other aspirants for the primary aside the two are Chief Adaramola Samuel; Ibiwoye Micheal; Banjo Adelodun; Afolayan Bola; Jide Aina; Otaja Emmanuel; Apole Alaba Felix; Arowona Salihu and Osasona.Leke.
